Shangri-La Group announces ultra-luxury Songtei Kyoto

Shangri-La Group has announced the development of Songtei Kyoto, Shangri-La Signatures, the second property in its ultra-luxury residential-style collection. Located in Kyoto, Japan, opposite the UNESCO World Heritage Site Nijo Castle, the hotel will be situated on the former site of the Kyoto Shoshidai residence.

The property will feature 77 rooms and suites, with sizes ranging from 50 to 202 square meters. Designed to reflect the elegance of Edo-period residences, the hotel will offer immersive experiences in art, wellness, and gastronomy. Facilities are expected to include a private spa, indoor and outdoor hot baths, a gym, and an indoor pool.

Construction is being handled by Taisei Corporation. The hotel is scheduled to begin welcoming guests in late 2026, with a full property unveiling expected in early 2027. This marks the first entry of the Shangri-La Signatures brand into Japan, following the 2025 opening of its first location in Hangzhou, China.
