Shannon Airport investigation launched after suspicious package addressed to US Customs

An investigation is underway following the discovery of a suspicious package at Shannon Airport in County Clare. The package, which was addressed to US Customs, was reported on the morning of August 25.

An Garda Síochána requested assistance from the Irish Defence Forces' Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, who attended the scene to make the package safe. The package was subsequently moved to an alternate location in a manner that did not impact airport operations. Authorities are currently working to identify the sender.

The incident occurs shortly before US President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Ireland. Trump is expected to arrive in Dublin and later travel to Shannon Airport as part of his itinerary, which includes attending the Irish Open. Shannon Airport hosts US Pre-Clearance facilities where US Customs and Border Protection personnel operate.
