Shannon Airport leads Irish passenger growth despite weather disruptions

Shannon Airport has recorded the highest passenger growth among Ireland's major airports for four consecutive months. According to data from the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation, Shannon saw an 8.8 percent increase in traffic, significantly outpacing Dublin Airport's 1 percent growth and Cork Airport's 4 percent decline.

During the summer of 2026, the airport served over one million passengers between May and August, an 11.5 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. To further expand international connectivity, a new non-stop service between Shannon and Toronto via Air Canada is scheduled to begin in 2027.

However, recent weather conditions have caused operational disruptions. High winds gusting up to 44 knots (81 kilometers per hour) led to flight delays and several diversions. Aer Lingus and Ryanair flights were diverted to Dublin Airport, while a private jet diverted to Shannon, as Met Éireann issued a Status Yellow warning for the region.
