Shannon reports high airport passenger growth amid rising commercial vacancy

Shannon is experiencing contrasting economic trends regarding aviation and commercial real estate. According to figures from the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation, Shannon Airport recorded the strongest year-on-year passenger growth among Ireland’s major airports in June, with traffic increasing by 14 per cent.

Shannon Airport Group CEO Ray O’Driscoll attributed this growth to a route development strategy that includes new services to Madrid, Rome, Warsaw, and Poznań, as well as increased frequencies on existing routes. The airport currently offers its largest number of routes in 17 years.

Conversely, a report from GeoDirectory indicates that Shannon has the highest commercial vacancy rate in Ireland, standing at 34.9 per cent. While the national commercial vacancy rate in Ireland saw a marginal year-on-year decline to 14.5 per cent, Shannon's vacancy rate has risen by 4.1 per cent.
