The National Oil Corporation of Libya has announced the resumption of crude oil pumping from the Sharara field through the Sharara-Zawiya pipeline. This follows a five-day closure of valve number seven on the main transport line by armed groups belonging to the Southwest Oil Facilities Guard and the Western Military Region.

The shutdown, which was reportedly driven by protests from Oil Facilities Guard members demanding salary increases, resulted in an estimated $95 million in cumulative production losses. During the stoppage, the Sharara field lost approximately 720,362 barrels of crude oil.

The disruption forced the National Oil Corporation to emergency-stop one refining unit at the Zawiya refinery to preserve the operation of its remaining unit. Officials warned that the closure threatened national revenue and increased the need for expensive fuel imports to support power plants, specifically the West Tripoli and Al-Harsha facilities, which require roughly 5,200 cubic meters of fuel daily.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) expressed concern over the incident, warning that attacks on energy infrastructure could trigger sanctions under UN Security Council resolutions. Technical teams have since worked to ensure the safe and stable restart of oil flows toward the Zawiya refinery and export ports.
