UAE outward FDI stock reaches $402 billion as Sharjah projects surge
The United Arab Emirates has demonstrated significant growth in foreign direct investment (FDI) activity. In 2025, the country’s total outward FDI stock reached approximately $402.7 billion, a substantial increase from $55.56 billion in 2010. Outward FDI for the year 2025 was recorded at $63.353 billion, spanning six continents and various sectors including energy, technology, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Within the UAE, the emirate of Sharjah reported a 45 percent surge in FDI projects during 2025. Mohamed Juma Al Musharrkh, CEO of the Sharjah FDI Office, attributed this growth to the UAE’s economic competitiveness, stability, and flexible regulatory frameworks. He noted that economic diversification is a key driver, with non-oil activities accounting for 79.4 percent of the UAE economy in the first quarter of 2026.
The evolution of UAE economic zones, such as JAFZA, Dubai Internet City, and Masdar City, has transitioned from simple regulatory environments into comprehensive business ecosystems. These zones support growth by providing access to specialized talent, logistics, and interconnected networks of suppliers and customers.
