Sharjah honors Nawaz Thekkada and Sreejish with Mohammed Rafi Award

The Chiranthana Mohammed Rafi Award, created by the Chiranthana and Darshana societies to commemorate legendary singer Mohammed Rafi, was presented in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. The ceremony took place on Friday, 31 July at 8:00 p.m. in the Sharjah Indian Association Hall, marking the 46th death anniversary of Rafi.

Social and cultural activist Nawaz Thekkada, a native of Thiruvananthapuram and General Secretary of the INCAS Sharjah State Committee, received the award for his long‑standing humanitarian work, including recognition by Sharjah Police for his COVID‑19 relief efforts. Writer‑journalist Sreejish Sarada Sreekantan Nair, also from Thiruvananthapuram and a contributor to Asiavision, was honored for his literary contributions, notably his book “Aksharakkadalile Veliyettam” on the history of the Sharjah International Book Fair.
