Sharjah Police warn against tailgating following road casualties
Sharjah Police have launched a traffic awareness campaign warning against tailgating, following footage of a motorcycle colliding with a car after speeding in a high-speed lane. The authority emphasized that maintaining a safe distance provides motorists with critical seconds to react to sudden stops and changing road conditions.
According to 2025 traffic statistics from Sharjah Police, failing to leave a safe distance between vehicles has been linked to 15 casualties in the emirate, including one death and 14 injuries. These figures are part of a broader total of 426 recorded traffic accidents across Sharjah in 2025, with the majority occurring in Sharjah City.
Penalties for tailgating include a Dh400 fine and four black points. In 2024, authorities noted that vehicles could be impounded for up to 30 days for multiple offenses. Additionally, Sharjah has introduced steep release fees for impounded vehicles, with costs reaching Dh20,000 for certain reckless driving offenses or riding motorcycles in restricted areas.
