Shark Bình and Mr Pips to face trial in major fraud case

The Hanoi People's Court has scheduled a first-instance trial beginning October 26 for 188 defendants involved in a major fraud and money laundering case. The trial, presided over by Judge Trần Nam Hà, is expected to last approximately 15 days and will utilize both direct and online formats.

The case centers on an illegal trading ring led by Phó Đức Nam (known as Mr Pips), who is accused of fraud and money laundering. The group allegedly operated fraudulent websites connected to MT4 and MT5 applications, mimicking legitimate international forex and stock trading platforms to deceive investors. The scheme reportedly involved the establishment of dozens of shell companies to facilitate operations.

Among the defendants is Nguyễn Hòa Bình (known as Shark Bình), who faces charges related to money laundering. Other defendants include Lê Khắc Ngọc (Mr Hunter) and several others facing charges of fraud, money laundering, tax evasion, and the concealment of assets obtained through criminal activities. The investigation alleges the group defrauded investors of approximately 1,600 billion VND and laundered 320 billion VND.
