Shark spotted swimming near surfers at Manhattan Beach

A shark was filmed swimming in shallow water near surfers at El Porto Beach in Manhattan Beach, California. The footage, captured by social media influencer Josh Hublitz, shows the predator's dorsal fin breaking the surface in water described as being ankle-deep.

While the specific species of the shark has not been confirmed, some observers suggested it could be a baby thresher shark. This sighting follows a recent trend of increased marine life activity along the Southern California coast, including a report of an aggressive 10- to 12-foot great white shark near Huntington Beach.

Experts attribute the presence of unusual sea creatures—including hammerhead sharks, whale sharks, and rare devil rays—to warmer ocean temperatures caused by El Niño conditions. These shifting temperatures are driving species out of their typical habitats and closer to the shore.
