Sharks eye Malcolm Marx amid Bongi Mbonambi disciplinary issues

The Sharks are reportedly considering a move for Springbok hooker Malcolm Marx following disciplinary uncertainty involving Bongi Mbonambi. Mbonambi is facing a potential contract termination after an alleged breach of team rules during a pre-season team-building trip. Reports indicate Mbonambi participated in socialising into Wednesday morning despite instructions from head coach JP Pietersen to return to training.

While other players involved in the incident received written warnings, Mbonambi is reportedly facing more severe consequences. This situation has prompted the Sharks to explore recruiting Marx, who is currently under contract with Japan’s Kubota Spears until June 2027. The Sharks would be competing with the Bulls, who have been pursuing Marx’s signature for the past two months.
