Sharks filmed by underwater drone off Mersin coast
During an underwater search operation off the coast of Mersin, Turkey, three sharks were captured on video by an underwater drone at a depth of 76 meters. The search was initiated by an amateur fisherman seeking to recover fishing equipment valued at 60,000 TL that had fallen into the sea.
Underwater imaging specialist Serhat Çığgın conducted the search near fish farms in the Taşucu area. The operation faced technical difficulties when the first drone became entangled in ropes from a fish farm. While using a second device with a shorter cable, Çığgın encountered the sharks. The footage showed the animals moving through the water without exhibiting aggressive behavior. The visibility in the area was noted to be low due to organic waste and sediment on the seabed caused by long-term feeding activities at the local fish farms.
