Sharlene Mawdsley wins 400m in Italy on return from injury
Irish sprinter Sharlene Mawdsley secured a victory in the women’s 400m at the Palio Città della Quercia meeting in Rovereto, Italy, marking a successful return to competition following a hamstring injury.
Mawdsley, representing Newport AC, clocked a time of 50.58 seconds to finish ahead of Great Britain’s Charlotte Henrich, who took second with 50.70 seconds, and American Paris Peoples, who placed third in 51.09 seconds. The injury had previously sidelined the athlete during the National Championships in July, causing her to miss the European Championships.
This performance serves as preparation for the upcoming World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest. The inaugural event features a $10 million prize purse, with winners set to receive $150,000.
