Sharon Horgan stars in new HBO series ‘Youth’

Sharon Horgan has released her new HBO series, ‘Youth’, in which she serves as creator, writer, executive producer, and star. Playing Alex, a literary agent in her 50s, Horgan explores themes of aging, career challenges, and the complexities of relationships while navigating the pressures of caring for aging parents and a teenage son.

The series is viewed as a thematic continuation of Horgan’s previous work, such as ‘Pulling’ and ‘Catastrophe’, which also utilized a half-hour format to blend comedy with the realities of life stages. While the show has been praised for its progressive depiction of a woman in her fifties having a sex life and navigating mid-life struggles, some critics have noted a tension between the character’s relatability and Horgan’s own charismatic presence.
