Sharp to release AQUOS wish6 SIM-free smartphone in Japan

Sharp will begin sequential releases of its SIM-free AQUOS wish6 Android smartphone in the Japanese market starting September 17. The device is positioned as a basic model with enhanced durability and security features.

Key technical specifications include a 6.6-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of approximately 1000 nits, roughly double that of its predecessor. The phone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor, features 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 5,000mAh battery. It is designed to meet MIL-STD-810H standards for shock and vibration resistance and carries IPX5/8/9 waterproof and IP6X dustproof ratings.

Security enhancements include an AI-driven system to analyze calls for potential fraud, restrictions on international calls to prevent scams, and a 'crime prevention alert' that triggers a loud alarm and sends emergency messages with location data when the device is shaken.

In addition to the Sharp official store and major electronics retailers, the device will be available through Rakuten Mobile, Y!Mobile, and mineo. Prices vary by provider, with the Sharp official store listing the device at 49,940 yen (including tax).
