Shashi Tharoor praises India's democratic resilience amid Gen Z protests
Congress MP and former diplomat Shashi Tharoor has praised the resilience of the Indian democratic system following recent Gen Z-led protests. Speaking at the NDTV World Anviksha Summit, Tharoor stated that the “Indian system bent, didn’t break” due to a “self-correcting mechanism” that allowed the political framework to adapt to new realities with speed.
Tharoor compared India's experience to other South Asian nations that have faced youth-led agitations over the last decade. He noted that while Myanmar saw a military takeover and Pakistan experienced military intervention resulting in a “puppet government,” other nations faced different outcomes. In Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, existing rulers fled following unrest, while Nepal underwent a regime change through fresh elections.
