Shasta Groene recounts 47‑day hostage ordeal with serial killer

In May 2005, eight‑year‑old Shasta Groene and her nine‑year‑old brother Dylan were abducted by serial killer Joseph Edward Duncan III after he murdered members of their family in Idaho. The children endured 47 days of captivity before Shasta was recognized by a waitress from a missing‑persons poster and rescued from a restaurant in Idaho.

Now an adult, Shasta Groene has become a mother and speaks publicly about the trauma, emphasizing her recovery and desire to be known beyond her victimhood.
