Shasta Lake man dies attempting to rescue dog from boat
Geordan White, a 60-year-old man from Redding, California, died after jumping into Shasta Lake to rescue a dog that had leaped from a boat. The incident occurred near the Bailey Cove Boat Launch on a Friday morning.
According to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, White entered the water to retrieve the animal, but encountered an emergency and began struggling. Although a bystander attempted to assist by tossing him a flotation device, White was unable to maintain his hold and disappeared beneath the surface. A dive team later recovered his body.
The dog was successfully rescued from the water by a caller. Authorities used the incident to issue a safety reminder, stating, “The Sheriff’s Office also encourages the public to always wear personal flotation devices while on the water.” An autopsy is expected to determine the exact cause of death.
