Shau Kei Wan water outage disrupts thousands, emergency trucks deployed

A major water supply interruption struck Shau Kei Wan, Hong Kong, on 19 July 2026 after a cast‑iron main burst at the junction of Shau Kei Wan Road and Sun Sing Street. The leak, hidden beneath underground utilities, affected roughly 10 000 households and forced the closure of many residential blocks, shops and restaurants.

The Water Supplies Department dispatched up to 13 water trucks, 100 water tanks and distributed 10 000 bottled water packs, but residents endured long queues and shortages of bottled water. Initial emergency repairs were completed by early morning on 20 July, with water expected to resume around 6 am. However, a fresh seepage was detected at a pipe joint, extending restoration work by an additional two hours. Authorities continued to provide temporary water points and coordinated with district councillors and community care teams until full service was restored.
