Shaun Ross Wiebe ordered back to halfway house

The Parole Board of Canada has ordered Shaun Ross Wiebe, a former pharmacist, to return to a halfway house following violations of his statutory release conditions. Wiebe, who is serving a sentence for the 2018 manslaughter of his partner, Heather Barker, violated his terms by consuming alcohol while in the community.

The board expressed concern regarding Wiebe’s recent behavior, noting that he had entered a new relationship and suggested living with a woman despite his inability to maintain sobriety. The decision stated that his actions created an unmanageable risk, specifically regarding the potential for domestic violence and attacks driven by alcohol abuse.

In March 2018, Wiebe killed Barker during a violent altercation in Vernon. According to the board, the attack occurred after Wiebe accused Barker of taking narcotics from his pharmacy safe. He repeatedly struck her head against the floor, causing a coma from which she later died.
