Shauntelle Elizabeth Went committed to trial over procurement charges

Shauntelle Elizabeth Went, a Brisbane sex worker, has been committed to stand trial in the District Court. She faces charges of using the internet to procure a person under the age of 16 for sexual acts.

The case involves former Commonwealth Bank executive Christopher James McCann, 50, who allegedly arranged to pay Went to provide the services of two girls aged 14 or 15. The court heard that McCann and Went attended a five-star hotel in Brisbane’s CBD, though the minors did not enter the room after McCann contacted the front desk to ask them to leave.

McCann, who was based in Sydney, was found dead in the Gold Coast hinterland last year following his release on bail; his death was determined not to be suspicious. Went’s legal representative has requested a variation of bail conditions, arguing that reporting to police is unnecessary due to Went's mental health and regular welfare checks. Went has previously been charged with breaching bail conditions.
