Shauwn Mkhize luxury properties ordered for sale over tax debt

The KwaZulu-Natal High Court has authorized the sale of five luxury residential properties in Sandown, Johannesburg, linked to businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize and her family. The ruling, issued on 26 October 2026, directs a curator to auction the homes to address significant outstanding tax liabilities owed to the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

The properties have an estimated market value of approximately R35 million, with a forced-sale value of R24.5 million. The court ordered that the proceeds from the sale be held in an interest-bearing trust account pending further legal proceedings to determine how the funds will be applied toward the debt.

SARS has sought the sale to prevent the erosion of the properties' value due to mounting maintenance, security, and municipal costs. Reports indicate that Mkhize faces a personal income tax debt of R13.3 million, while she is also cited as personally liable for the Zikhulise Group’s tax indebtedness, which includes interest, totaling approximately R112.5 million. The legal proceedings involve Mkhize, her son Andile Mpisane, his wife Tamia Mpisane, and related companies.
