Shawna Munguia sentenced to probation in Wisconsin daycare child abuse case

Shawna Munguia, a 36‑year‑old resident of Wausau, Wisconsin, pleaded no contest to a felony child‑abuse charge stemming from injuries to a 4‑month‑old infant in her unlicensed in‑home daycare. The infant was hospitalized in May 2025 with a brain bleed, skull fracture and retinal hemorrhage, injuries doctors said resulted from repeated abusive trauma.

A Marathon County judge imposed a six‑month stay in the county jail, followed by 7.5 years of probation. The sentence includes a $93,000 restitution order, mandatory anger‑management counseling, completion of an apology letter, a no‑contact order with the victim’s family, and a prohibition on working in any daycare setting. If Munguia violates any probation condition, she faces a four‑year prison term and extended supervision.
