Shawne Merriman ordered to pay $4 million in wrongful death lawsuit

A Los Angeles judge has issued a $4 million judgment against former NFL linebacker Shawne Merriman in connection with the 2017 death of Kimberly Fattorini. Fattorini, a model and Playboy casting associate, died from an overdose of alcohol, cocaine, and GHB.

The wrongful death lawsuit was brought by Fattorini’s parents, DeAnn and Ferdinand Fattorini. The legal team alleged that Merriman or his associates drugged Fattorini with GHB and potentially assaulted her prior to her death. While the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled the death accidental, a jury found Merriman and three other defendants—Elias Wehbe, J. P. Castro, and Monica Maass—liable for the incident.

Merriman, who played for the San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills, has consistently denied all allegations of wrongdoing. His representatives previously stated that police investigations found no evidence of misconduct and that the claims were baseless. No criminal charges were ever filed in relation to the death.
