Shawnigan Players stage Shakespeare's Richard III in Cowichan Valley

The community theatre group Shawnigan Players presented a new production of Shakespeare's tragedy Richard III on July 28, 2026. The show was directed by first‑time director Nima Foell, who described the play as a long‑standing personal project.

The cast featured Svea Young as Richard of Gloucester, Roland Grahame as King Edward IV, and a supporting ensemble that included Layne Kriwoken, Kate Steele, Alex Pell, and several others. Stage manager Sarah Chapeskie handled the complex logistics, while the production highlighted themes of power, betrayal and moral choice.

The performance was staged in the Cowichan Valley region, offering local audiences a full‑length rendition of one of Shakespeare's longest plays.
