Shearwater Releases Immersive New Album “The New World”

Texas‑based indie band Shearwater has issued its 11th record, The New World, led by frontman Jonathan Meiburg. Reviewers describe the album as the group’s most powerful and immersive work, noting its themes of modern confusion and the blending of nature with technology. Meiburg is quoted as saying, “The world we now live in is so confusing,” and the lyrics include lines such as “Nothing is ordinary / Elephant ear, coyote eye.”

The record incorporates field recordings gathered during Meiburg’s Antarctic expeditions, and the video for the track “Daydream Unbeliever” was filmed aboard the research vessel. The album follows the band’s previous Sub Pop releases and reflects Meiburg’s interdisciplinary approach that merges scientific curiosity with his musical output.
