Sheba Medical Center deploys OpenAI healthcare tools in Israel

Sheba Medical Center in Israel has announced it will become the first hospital outside the United States to deploy OpenAI’s specialized healthcare platform, ChatGPT for Healthcare. The tool is designed to assist clinicians by synthesizing peer-reviewed medical literature, navigating clinical guidelines, and processing public health data. The implementation aims to reduce administrative burdens and support treatment planning, though the hospital emphasizes that clinicians remain responsible for all final medical decisions.

To address privacy concerns, Sheba and OpenAI have committed to a zero-data-retention policy, ensuring no patient information is stored or used to train OpenAI’s machine learning models. The rollout will occur in phases across clinical, research, and operational departments.

In a separate development in the medical AI sector, Hippocratic AI has raised $141 million to develop clinical AI agents intended to staff hospitals. The startup has expanded its focus from supporting clinicians to assisting patients directly, including the creation of AI agents designed to help new mothers navigate postpartum mental health challenges through assessments and depression screening.
