Sheep and Lamb Markets Tight in UK and Australia as Prices Rise

In the UK, the Holsworthy livestock market on 10 June saw strong demand for lambs, with prices reaching up to £460 per head for 42‑kg pens, and notable sales for heavyweight cattle and bulls.

In Australia, the Sheep and Lamb Slaughter Index for May indicated modest throughput gains but overall tight supply, with lamb and sheep prices rising by 60‑100 cents despite higher slaughter. Export volumes fell 31 % year‑on‑year, underscoring constrained market conditions.

Both regions are experiencing heightened price pressure on sheep and lamb products due to limited availability, affecting producers and processors.
