Sheep miniseries debuts on ZDF with Austrian star cast

The German‑Austrian comedy miniseries “Sheep” consists of five 20‑minute episodes and premiered on ZDF’s streaming platform on 24 August 2026, with a later broadcast on Austria’s ORF. The show features a herd of real sheep whose mouths were digitally synced with the voices of well‑known Austrian actors, including Verena Altenberger, Roland Düringer, Birgit Minichmayr, Michael Ostrowski, Berni Wagner and Christoph Fritz.

Created by directors Leni Gruber and Alexander Reinberg (co‑written with Sebastian Huber), the series uses absurdist humor to satirise human superiority complexes. The flock believes it is the “crown of creation” and seeks the idyllic “Obermoser”, only to discover that the promised paradise is in fact a slaughterhouse, prompting a desperate attempt to rescue its blinded companions.
