Sheffield coroner to hold inquest into death of Harvey Willgoose

A senior coroner has reversed an earlier decision and ordered a full inquest into the death of 15-year-old Harvey Willgoose. Harvey was stabbed to death at All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield by Mohammed Umar Khan, who was convicted of murder last year and sentenced to a minimum of 16 years in prison.

The decision to resume the inquest follows legal submissions by the law firm Irwin Mitchell on behalf of the Willgoose family. A review commissioned by the school's trust revealed that the perpetrator had brought knives to school on multiple occasions and had 130 logged behavioral incidents, including concerns regarding weapons, gangs, and anger.

Harvey’s parents, Mark and Caroline Willgoose, expressed relief at the decision, stating they sought the inquest to determine if more could have been done to keep their son safe. A date for the proceedings has not yet been set.
