Sheffield Forgemasters Receives First Overhead Crane for New Machine Shop
The first of eleven overhead cranes destined for Sheffield Forgemasters' new 30,000 m² Machine Shop arrived from GH Cranes' plant in northern Spain. The 150 tonne‑capacity crane, one of two of that size, joins a suite that includes four 200‑tonne service cranes, five 250‑tonne cranes and a tandem lifting beam capable of 400 tonnes, all slated for delivery by year‑end.
Project manager Harry McClean said the crane’s arrival marks the start of installation work, with PLS contracted to fit the cranes on site. The project team also includes Arup (ecological and travel assessments), Bond Bryan Architects, JLL (site acquisition and planning) and Turner & Townsend (delivery support). Remaining cranes are being manufactured at GH and will arrive weekly.
