Sheffield United faces potential 12-point deduction amid High Court debt dispute

Sheffield United faces a potential 12-point deduction in the Championship following a High Court winding-up order against COH Sports Bidco Limited (CSBL), the company that acquired the club in December 2024.

The legal action stems from an unpaid debt of approximately £35 million owed to the club’s former owners, United World, led by Prince Abdullah bin Musaed Al Saud. United World alleges that the creation of a new US-based entity, 1919 Partners LLC, was an attempt to avoid paying creditors while maintaining control of the club through existing board members Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy.

While the liquidation proceedings are formally against CSBL rather than the club itself, the English Football League (EFL) regulations could result in significant sporting sanctions if the debt remains unsettled. Current club leadership has denied the accusations, maintaining that the club remains financially stable.
