Shehbaz Sharif calls for suspension of long-term projects in KP
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the prioritization of short-term development initiatives over long-term projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Speaking at a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) parliamentary party meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for immediate relief through measures such as improving law and order, constructing schools, and ensuring medical supplies reach hospitals.
The directive comes as KP remains under governor’s rule, which was imposed by the federal government on October 11. The federal government cited shortcomings in provincial counterterrorism efforts as the reason for ending the provincial government’s powers. Under the current arrangement, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi exercises provincial functions with an 11-member advisory council, while Parliament handles legislative powers.
