Shehbaz Sharif credits Donald Trump for averting India-Pakistan conflict
Addressing the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif credited U.S. President Donald Trump with preventing a large-scale conflict between India and Pakistan during the 2025 tensions. Sharif described Trump’s intervention as 'timely' and 'visionary,' claiming it saved millions of lives in South Asia.
The Prime Minister also raised the long-standing Kashmir dispute, calling for a 'just and equitable' solution to ensure regional stability and prevent a recurrence of the 2025 military confrontation. This confrontation followed India’s 'Operation Sindhu' on May 7, 2025, which targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam.
Additionally, Sharif expressed concern regarding the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty by India, which has stated the treaty remains suspended until Pakistan ceases support for cross-border terrorism. India has consistently rejected claims of third-party mediation in its regional conflicts.
