Shehbaz Sharif orders property survey for Apna Ghar housing loans

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed provincial chief secretaries to conduct a comprehensive survey of properties to facilitate loans under the Apna Ghar Scheme. The initiative aims to provide affordable housing to low-income and middle-class citizens. Islamabad will serve as the pilot city for a new system designed to identify plots that meet mortgage requirements.

To date, the scheme has received 147,504 applications, with 53,127 approved. The total value of approved applications is Rs313.42bn, and Rs45.43bn in loans has been disbursed to 8,739 applicants. The government plans to involve prominent housing developers to streamline the process.

During a review of the Access to Finance Plan 2026-28, the Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of financial support for the agricultural sector and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). He noted that bank lending to agriculture reached Rs1.268tr in August 2026, with a target of Rs2tr by June 2028.
