Shehbaz Sharif orders smart scanner installation at Pakistani airports

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the immediate installation of smart scanners at all international airports in Pakistan to modernize baggage inspection and improve passenger convenience. During a meeting in Islamabad to review the customs system, the Prime Minister ordered that outdated manual inspection methods be replaced with automated, international-standard technology.

To facilitate smoother travel, the Prime Minister instructed customs officials to cease unnecessary questioning of passengers. He emphasized that smart scanners should be imported via air freight immediately to expedite the rollout. Additionally, airport staff will undergo training to meet international service standards, with a specific focus on politeness and human respect during service delivery.

The meeting also included briefings on customs monitoring at ports and various locations across the country, as well as measures to prevent the smuggling of petroleum products.
