Shehu Sani addresses Nigerian security and 2027 power rotation
Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has issued several calls regarding Nigeria’s security and political stability. Addressing the Southern Kaduna Journalists Forum, Sani advocated for constructive engagement with the government to address regional insecurity, including killings and kidnappings. He noted that while the appointment of General Christopher Musa, a son of the region, as Minister of Defence provides an opportunity for progress, citizens must still hold the government accountable for protecting lives and property.
On the political front, Sani warned northern leaders against disrupting the informal principle of presidential power rotation during the 2027 elections. He argued that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be allowed to complete his term to maintain national cohesion and prevent the resurgence of separatist agitations in the South-East, South-West, and South-South. Sani suggested that northern politicians should instead focus on the 2031 elections to avoid undermining confidence in the political system.
