Shehu Sani questions NCDC Ebola contact allowances
Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has raised concerns regarding the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention’s (NCDC) decision to provide a weekly ₦100,000 allowance to individuals being monitored following exposure to a confirmed Ebola case in Abuja.
NCDC Director-General Dr. Jide Idris announced that 53 primary contacts are currently being monitored, with the stipend intended to cover food, accommodation, and family needs during a 21-day isolation period. Sani warned on social media that the financial incentive could lead to fraudulent claims, suggesting that individuals might falsely report exposure to the virus to access the payments. He urged the agency to implement strict verification processes to ensure only genuine contacts receive support.
