Turkey earthquake recovery and disaster preparedness updates

Various regional developments in Turkey highlight ongoing earthquake recovery and disaster preparedness. In Gaziantep, the 16th-century Şeyh Fethullah Mosque has reopened for worship following restoration work necessitated by the February 2023 earthquakes. Officials noted this is the 27th of 35 damaged mosques being restored.

In Fethiye, the Fethiye State Hospital conducted a large-scale earthquake drill to test emergency response. The simulation involved a scenario where an oncology ward was damaged, resulting in 20 casualties and the need for a mobile field hospital and rescue operations for trapped individuals. Hospital Chief Physician Yavuz Okulu stated the drill was essential for testing equipment, logistics, and personnel coordination.

In other community news, a resident of Kahramanmaraş sent Maraş ice cream to the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality to express gratitude for their assistance with funeral transfers following the 2023 earthquakes. Additionally, the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality provided new household goods to a family in Tavas who lost their belongings in a house fire caused by an electrical short circuit.
