Sheikh Hasina and others charged in July Uprising murder case

Authorities in Bangladesh have filed a charge sheet against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and 27 others in connection with the death of Abdur Rahman Jisan during the July Uprising. Jisan was shot in the head in the Matuail area of Dhaka on July 20, 2024, while providing water to protesters. The charge sheet also names several former ministers, advisers, and high-ranking police officials.

In a separate legal development, a Dhaka court has ordered former Awami League lawmakers Solaiman Selim and Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin to be shown arrested in two new cases. These cases involve the killing of BNP activist Mokbul Hossain and an attack on the BNP central office in Nayapaltan in December 2022. Investigators allege the accused used their former positions to orchestrate the attack, which involved gunfire and explosives.
