Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will appear for the first time in public since her ouster, speaking at a virtual media interaction hosted by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia. The appearance coincides with the second anniversary of the 5 August 2024 fall of Hasina’s 15‑year government, which ended after a student‑led anti‑quota movement forced her to flee to India. In the address she is expected to outline her future political plans and a possible return to Bangladesh in late 2026. Prominent Bangladeshi figures slated to join the virtual session include her son and former ICT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy, former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Bangladesh Human Rights Watch secretary Mahammad Ali Siddique and ex‑cricketer‑MP Shakib Al Hasan. The event will be chaired by Dr Waiel Awwad, president of FCC South Asia.

Bangladesh’s current administration, led by Prime Minister Tariq Rahman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, has repeatedly sought Hasina’s extradition under the 2013/2016 Bangladesh‑India treaty, adding a diplomatic dimension to her planned return.
