Shein pursues brand acquisitions to drive growth following IPO

Following a successful Hong Kong stock market listing, fast-fashion retailer Shein is pivoting toward an acquisition-driven strategy to diversify its brand portfolio and combat slowing sales growth. According to its prospectus, the company holds $15 billion in cash and expects to raise an additional $1.74 billion through its IPO.

As part of this transition to a broader retail platform, Shein confirmed plans to acquire the U.S. brand Everlane for $80 million. This move is viewed as a test for Shein’s strategy to integrate various brands into its high-speed supply chain and its ‘Xcelerator’ programme, which provides manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics access to third-party brands.

The company faces challenges, including a slowdown in sales growth from 8% in 2025 to 1.1% in the first quarter of 2026. Additionally, analysts note that Shein’s revenue has been impacted by U.S. policy changes regarding ‘de minimis’ duty-free access for small parcels.
