Shein reports 67% profit drop in first post-IPO quarterly results

Shein, the fast-fashion giant, reported its first financial results as a public company following its September 1 debut on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The company's second-quarter adjusted net profit fell 67% year-on-year to $228 million, while its net profit margin dropped to 2.1% from 6.2% in the previous year.

Total net revenues for the quarter reached $11.08 billion, a marginal increase of 0.9%. However, regional performance showed significant divergence. Revenue in Europe fell 13.9% to $3.77 billion, and US revenue declined 6% to $2.5 billion. These declines were attributed to price increases and reduced advertising spending implemented in anticipation of new European Union regulations, including a 3-euro fee on low-value e-commerce parcels that took effect on July 1, 2026.

CEO Yangtian Xu noted that geopolitical tensions in the Middle East contributed to an 18.1% rise in fulfillment costs due to increased fuel and freight expenses. To counter margin pressure, the company plans to shift its product mix toward higher-priced clothing brands. Despite the profit squeeze and a 27.3% drop in share price since the IPO, Shein reported growth in its marketplace service revenue and order volumes, particularly in Latin America.
