Shein delays Hong Kong IPO to September with lower valuation target

Fast-fashion retailer Shein has delayed its Hong Kong initial public offering (IPO) to September 1, following delays in the investor book-building process. The company is now targeting a valuation between $25 billion and $27 billion, a significant reduction from its 2022 peak valuation of approximately $100 billion.

Shein aims to raise roughly $2 billion through the offering. Potential cornerstone investors include Boyu Capital, UBS, Tencent, and General Atlantic. While the company seeks new institutional interest, existing shareholders are expected to subscribe to approximately half of the shares.

The company faces significant headwinds, including a $99 million net loss in the first quarter of 2026 and a 14.3% decline in U.S. revenue. Regulatory changes and increased tariffs in the U.S. and EU have pressured its low-cost business model, prompting Shein to shift toward local warehousing in Europe and the Americas to manage costs.
