Claudia Sheinbaum honours security forces for Plan Kukulkan at World Cup 2026

President Claudia Sheinbaum led a ceremony recognizing the personnel who executed Plan Kukulkan, the security strategy implemented for the FIFA World Cup 2026 hosted in Mexico. The operation involved more than 124,500 members of the federal, state and municipal security apparatus, including 20,734 army, air‑force and National Guard personnel, 1,474 vehicles, 25 aircraft, 150 detection dogs, 150 horses, radars, anti‑drone systems and chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive detectors. Over 90,500 of those forces were deployed across seven host states – Mexico City, Jalisco, Nuevo León, Quintana Roo, Estado de México, Hidalgo and Baja California – to protect stadiums, airports, fan festivals and hotels. Governors and officials from Jalisco (Pablo Lemus Navarro), Nuevo León (Samuel García), Quintana Roo (Mara Lezama Espinosa), Baja California (Marina del Pilar Ávila) and the City of Mexico (Clara Brugada) attended the event. Sheinbaum highlighted the coordination as an example of national unity, describing Mexico as “a peaceful, cheerful and hospitable country” during the tournament.
