Shekhawati havelis added to UNESCO tentative list

The historic havelis of the Shekhawati region in Rajasthan have been included in the UNESCO tentative list. This recognition covers 14 major areas spanning from Alsisar to Sikar, including locations such as Churu, Fatehpur, Mandawa, Nawalgarh, and Jhunjhunu.

These havelis are renowned for their unique architectural styles and vibrant fresco paintings that depict the socio-cultural life of the era. Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari noted that this is a significant step toward gaining global recognition for Rajasthan's heritage.

Experts anticipate that this inclusion will boost heritage tourism, potentially increasing the number of domestic and international visitors. This growth is expected to benefit local businesses, including hotels, homestays, tour guides, handicrafts, and local transportation, while creating new employment opportunities for local youth.
