Shelby de Mexico produced rare 1969 GT350 fastback variants
In 1969, Shelby de Mexico produced a highly rare version of the Shelby GT350, with only 306 units ever created. Due to Mexican manufacturing regulations requiring at least 45% locally produced parts, Ford Mexico only assembled Mustang coupes rather than fastbacks.
To achieve a sporty silhouette without altering industrial tooling, Shelby de Mexico utilized a fiberglass roof modification. This technique created a ‘faux fastback’ appearance by extending the roofline visually toward the spoiler. This project was a collaboration between Eduardo Velázquez and Carroll Shelby through Shelby International S.A. in Nuevo León.
