Shell Nigeria Gas expands industrial natural gas network in Port Harcourt

Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) hosted a Business and Investment Forum in Port Harcourt, bringing together manufacturers, investors, policymakers, development agencies and gas users. The event highlighted the economic and environmental benefits of switching to natural gas, with SNG head of gas distribution Chukwuka Amos‑Ejesi saying, “Companies that transition to natural gas consistently benefit from lower and more predictable energy costs, reduced exposure to liquid fuel price volatility, enhanced operational uptime, improved planning certainty, and stronger competitive offering for their customers.”

During the forum SNG announced the onboarding of two new industrial customers in Ogun State—Intercontinental Distillers Limited II and Rumbu Industries Limited—raising the total number of firms on its distribution network to more than 150. The supply to these plants is equivalent to about 4 MW of electricity, expected to boost production efficiency and lower operating costs. SNG also signed gas sales and purchase agreements with Boskel Nigeria Limited and Bluefinn Global Resource Limited in Rivers and Bayelsa states.

Representatives from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, the Bank of Industry, the Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency, the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce attended. Niger Delta Chambers of Commerce chairman Idaere Ogan emphasized that increased gas utilisation could help revive industrial activity in a region where over 500 companies have recently shut down.
