Shell Nigeria Gas outlines strategy to boost gas use at Abuja forum

Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) presented at the second business forum of the Association of Local Distributors of Gas in Abuja, emphasising its three‑decade effort to build a bankable gas‑distribution ecosystem for Nigerian industry. Managing Director Ralph Gbobo, represented by Head of Gas Distribution Chukwuka Amos‑Ejesi, noted that early investment in pipeline infrastructure and market‑making by distributors turned gas from a policy goal into a practical energy source. The panel highlighted the importance of supportive policies introduced under Nigeria’s Petroleum Industry Act, including the Domestic Gas Supply Obligation, the Network Code governing the domestic market, clearer pricing frameworks and a more competitive licensing regime, which together have lifted producer confidence and attracted long‑term capital.

SNG now serves over 150 industrial clients across Abia, Bayelsa, Ogun and Rivers states and, in the first half of this year, connected two additional companies in Ogun State to its gas network. The forum’s theme, “From Gas Abundance to Gas Access,” underscored the role of natural‑gas utilisation in the country’s broader industrialisation strategy.
