Shell opens grease manufacturing plant in Marunda, Bekasi
Shell has inaugurated its new Grease Manufacturing Plant (GMP) in Marunda, Bekasi, with an annual production capacity of 12,000 tons. This new facility complements Shell’s existing Lubricants Oil Blending Plant (LOBP) in the region, positioning Indonesia as one of Shell’s top three grease manufacturing facilities globally.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita praised the investment, noting its potential to strengthen Indonesia’s manufacturing base and reduce reliance on imported industrial lubricants. The facility is expected to support various growing sectors, including mining, transportation, and general manufacturing, while creating a multiplier effect for the national economy through local vendor integration.
Shell aims for the Marunda plant to not only meet domestic demand but also to serve as a regional production hub, potentially exporting products to Southeast Asia and the global market.
